Анотація: Setting out from the premise that “a picture is worth more than a thousand words”, this book presents a superb set of illustrations, with accompanying clinical data, relating to a series of cases from a single surgeon registry. The series has the benefit of offering exceptionally homogeneous data from patients who have undergone total hip replacement (THR) and have been subjected to long-term follow-up with repeated acquisition of radiographs. This THR registry was established at the time when the Orthopaedic Department of the University of Athens became one of the first centers in Greece to perform THR. It now offers a huge database of unparalleled interest that includes approximately 1000 THRs performed by one of the authors (G. Hartofilakidis) between 1973 and 1994, with subsequent continuous follow-up. The cases with series of preoperative radiographs are of special interest, as they indicate the natural history of different types of hip disorders. In some cases of congenital hip disease, previous radiographs dating back to early childhood are available. Key messages and lessons learned are clearly spelled out. The book will be of high value for all orthopaedic surgeons who are interested in hip reconstruction surgery.

The prevalence of dementia has increased over the past few decades, either because of greater awareness and more accurate diagnosis, or because increased longevity has created a larger population of the elderly, the age group most commonly affected. Although only clinical assessment can lead to a diagnosis of dementia, neuroimaging in dementia is recommended by most clinical guidelines, and its adjunct role has traditionally been to exclude a mass lesion rather than to support a specific diagnosis. Neuroimaging may be also helpful for developing new strategies to achieve diagnoses as early as possible for therapies aimed at slowing the progression of neurodegenerative diseases manifesting dementia. Under these conditions, all clinicians and researchers who are involved in neuroimaging for dementia should decide which patients to scan, when imaging patients is most useful, which modality to use, how to handle imaging data from many institutions, and which analytical tool to use. Анотація: Since the introduction of coronary angiography, a key technique in understanding coronary artery disease, a number of paradigms regarding its study and interpretation have taken place. Following an emphasis on improved angiographic and subsequent intracoronary imaging techniques, functional assessment of coronary circulation has demonstrated to have major implications for diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. Fractional flow reserve, a pressure derived index of stenosis severity, constitutes the best example of the current importance of physiological assessment in clinical practice. However, the acceptance of FFR by cardiologists contrasts with important voids in knowledge on the basic principles of coronary physiology and of other available techniques that, as an alternative to FFR, allow a more comprehensive assessment of coronary circulation. This is particularly noticeable in the assessment of microcirculation, an unavoidable compartment of coronary circulation that is frequently affected in acute coronary syndromes of in the presence of cardiovascular risk factors or non-coronary heart disease. A deeper understanding of the relationship between epicardial vessel and microcirculatory involvement has started with the advent of newer imaging techniques like invasive optical coherence tomography, and non-invasive CT and NMR techniques. This book aims to be an indispensable tool for clinicians and researches in the field of coronary artery disease. It provides a balanced, comprehensive review of anatomy, physiology and available techniques, discusses both the diagnosis of epicardial vessel and microcirculatory disease, the impact of different diseases at different levels of coronary circulation, and the best way to address a separate or combined assessment of different levels of coronary circulation. .
